The third book from Stephen King, The Shining, cemented the author's notoriety as not only a fantastic storyteller, but as the king of horror. Three years later, the film adaptation of this story by Stanley Kubrick would hit theaters. However, this release would ruffle the feathers of the soon-to-be household name, Stephen King.

Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), a prolific writer, takes up the duty of being the caretaker of the Overlook Hotel over the winter season. After being snowed in and isolated from the world, Jack encounters the dark forces that inhabit the hotel. Spiraling into insanity, Jack's wife Wendy (Shelly Duvall), and son, not only has to must find a way to escape the hotel, but also from clutches of the patriarch of the Torrance family.
